This film is one of the most racist, europhobic films I have seen in recent years. Its like a Republican wet dream of how ‘evil’ France, Arabs and the rest of the world is. Unfortunately, I really enjoyed watching Liam Neeson beating the crap out of everyone on screen…he’s like the Jedi Master to Jason Bourne’s young Padawan ( I love it when I can shove a Star Wars reference in ) ….oh well.

Two of my favourite bits:
1) The “brothel” which is basically just a large shed in the middle of a construction yard, surrounded by thugs with machine guns. It’s like a battery farm but instead of chickens it’s white girls hooked on heroin, chained to beds, getting raped.
2) The bit where they auction his daughter to arabs. She’s all drugged up and stands there in a bikini while they bid on her from the dark.

Also the bit when they explain the whole plot as ‘Its easier for these gangs to kidnap girls on holiday then it is to lure Eastern European Women under false pretenses’…..ummm I’m no white save trafficker but even I know thats not true….

I know people have been hyping this but the movie didn’t even make it into the guilty pleasure category for me. Aside from the full on xenophobic/orientalist/frog-hating blancmange, I just didn’t care. The two american girls were just plain annoying and I wasn’t bothered about their fate (the movie even conforms to horror script rules as the one who wants sex, dies). Liam Neeson gives a paint by numbers performance and looks stiff/old. And every minor plot point from the attack on the teeny-bop singer to the use of his cia buddies as background to his character, all pretty much stink. If I want mindless violence, I’d even take Van Damme at his worst over this crap.
